Azep is used to relieve runny nose, sneezing, itching or blocked nose caused by allergies, such as pollen (hay fever) or house dust mites.
Azep belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine and other substances produced by the body, which are causing your allergies.
How to use Azep
Azep comes as a nasal spray. Azep Nasal Spray is usually sprayed in each nostril two times a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Azep exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Before using azelastine for the first time, remove the child-resistant screw cap and replace with the pump unit. Prime the delivery system (pump unit) with four sprays or until a fine mist appears. If 3 days or more have elapsed since your last use of the nasal spray, reprime the pump with two sprays or until a fine mist appears.
While you are using Azep
Tell any other doctors, dentists, and pharmacists who are treating you that you are using Azep.
If you are about to be started on any new medicine, tell your doctor, dentist or pharmacist that you are using Azep.
If you become pregnant while using Azep, tell your doctor.
Make sure you know how you react to Azep before you drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are tired, drowsy, dizzy or light-headed.
Azep is unlikely to make you feel drowsy. However, if you are drowsy, do not drive a car or operate machinery.
Be careful drinking alcohol while using Azep. If you drink alcohol, any drowsiness may be worse.
Side Effects
Although side effects from azelastine are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
Keep your Azep in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C or 85°F.
Do not put Azep in the fridge.
Do not leave it in the car on hot days or on window sills. Heat can destroy some medicines.
Keep it where children cannot reach it. A locked cupboard at least one-and-a-half metres above the ground is a good place to store medicines.
Do not use Azep for longer than 6 months after the bottle was first opened.
